Cucamelons are small, have a unique crunch and a cucumber-like slightly tangy, lemony flavour. This makes them great for eating raw, as quick pickles, salsa and in salads.
Growing Tips:
Cucamelons take awhile to germinate and grows slowly in the first weeks. Once the plant starts to climb it fast gains momentum and grows into a wonderful thick hedge providing you with these little gems for a full season and well into Autumn. It is a perennial and will grow back the following season, developing tubers in the ground. The larger the tubers develop the fast and bigger the plant will grow back.
You can germinate your seeds in seed trays filled with good compost. Keep them warm and moist and transplant then in rich organic soil when they are 5cm high. To sow directly in the soil, prepare your beds with organic compost. Cucamelons and wine crops, and will needs to be grown on a trellis.
