I planted a lot of winter flowering bulbs last year but it was a total disaster. I did not take into account the hot weather we have in Durban of the 100's of bulbs i planted a few hyacinth were successful.
This year I have bought and have them in their own dedicated bar fridge for the next 3 months when it chills start. Just a word of advice.

Thank you for your review, Dr Marius. Cold-treating certain bulbs before winter can be effective, but it's a bit more technical than it may seem. These bulbs require a consistent chilling period at temperatures between 9–12°C — but cold temperatures stimulate root development which can be a problem when not in the ground. Some parts of KZN aren’t cold enough for bulbs such as hyacinths, Crocus, Dutch iris, tulips, and Fritillaria. In warmer regions like Durban, it's especially important to take extra care. Mulching with compost, protecting bulbs from the afternoon sun, and delaying planting until early winter can all help improve success rates.
