Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a well-loved spice used in countless recipes and is also valued for its medicinal properties. It even makes a beautiful natural dye for fabrics. This 5-pack is ideal for anyone eager to grow their own turmeric at home. Discover the many uses of this versatile plant!

Family: Zingiberaceae
Common name: turmeric
Sun exposure: Semi-shade
Planting time: September – October
Harvest time: March - May
Type: Rhizome
Mature height: 70-90cm
Planting depth: 5-10cm
Plant spacing: 50cm apart
Watering: Every 3-4 days when planted in the ground for 10 minutes

Position and soil
Loosen the soil before planting. Turmeric grows best in well-drained, loamy or alluvial and fertile soil. We suggest planting them under trees as they enjoy dappled shade. You can also grow them alongside limes, chillies, lemongrass, and coriander.

Further Care
Add a calcium rich fertiliser towards the end of summer to help the formation of fingers underground.

Harvesting
8 to 10 months after planting.
This will take place towards the end of autumn once the plant has flowered. It is a beautiful flower and the petals are edible as well- the perfect addition to salads. Unearth the plant and snap the fingers off in an upwardly direction from the roots. Use these for all cooking, medicinal and ayurvedic requirements as you will get another mother rhizome which can be replanted the next year.

Well packaged

Rhizomes came in soil, and I planted them straight away. They have not yet shown any growth, because they've only been in the ground for a week. I am excited to grow turmeric alongside my ginger!
Thank yiu for excellent service
