What's inside the box?
Each mushroom box is packed with a special wood substrate blend—rich in all the nutrients the mycelium (the mushroom’s root system) needs to spring to life.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR
Sporulation
Important: Harvest mushrooms before they release spores—this keeps their flavor, color, and texture at their best and supports future growth.
In addition, harvesting after spores drop reduces the mushroom’s ability to regrow, which can affect future yields.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR
Green Mould
If you notice green mould on your mushroom kit, it’s important to take action straight away. Mould often appears when the mycelium has finished producing mushrooms and becomes more vulnerable, or when airborne spores settle on the surface.
To deal with it, go directly to Step 5 in your instructions to prevent it from spreading further.
Tips to prevent mould contamination:
- Ensure good airflow and balanced humidity as outlined in your care guide.
- Avoid overwatering, since excess moisture encourages mould growth.
- Keep the growing area clean and free from dust or debris.
If green mould develops on your kit before the first harvest, please contact us at petalpixies@hadeco.co.za. Our team will assist you and arrange a replacement if needed.
